XRP Had the Wider Day, but Both Coins Ended Nearly the Same
A look at the day's price movement shows why a coin's spread matters more than its closing number.

At noon Eastern on Tuesday, October 6, one XRP token traded at $1.5025, while one bitcoin traded at $85,719. Over the previous 24 hours, XRP opened at $1.4915, reached a high of $1.5238 and a low of $1.4866 β a spread of 2.5% between its best and worst moment. Bitcoin opened at $85,250, touched $86,698 and $84,944, for a 2.1% spread.
Both coins ended the day up less than one percent: XRP by 0.7%, bitcoin by 0.5%. Yet the paths were not the same. XRP's range was wider, meaning someone watching the price minute by minute saw more movement, even though the closing number looks calm.
The lesson is that a daily "up" or "down" hides the ride. A spread tells you how much the price bounced between the high and the low. Two coins can finish at nearly the same place and still have very different days.
XRP's biggest single hour was the one starting at 11 a.m. Eastern, down 1.2%. Bitcoin's was the same hour, down 0.9%. Measured against 21 days of history, neither coin showed a lean in the coming windows at noon.
