Two Coins, Two Different Measures of a Down Day

XRP and Bitcoin both fell on Wednesday, but their daily price ranges tell different stories.

On Wednesday, XRP, a cryptocurrency, traded between $1.3251 and $1.3853 β€” a spread of 4.5% β€” and finished the day down 3.1%. Bitcoin traded between $81,505 and $84,062, a spread of 3.1%, and finished down 2.1%.

A cryptocurrency is digital money that lives on a public ledger. A spread is the difference between a coin's highest and lowest price in a period; it measures how far a price traveled, not where it ended.

Both coins had their biggest single-hour drop in the hour beginning 8 a.m. Eastern: XRP fell 1.2% and Bitcoin 0.9%, according to Atelier's market record for October 14, 2026, which compares the day against 29 days of history.
